Barry Costello

Barry holds a MSc in Mindfulness Based Interventions and is a qualified Mindfulness teacher, Barry runs Mindfulness programmes for the public, private and voluntary sector. He delivers self-care and wellness programmes for staff teams, and also is a qualified Therapist working primarily with people affected by addiction. He is also a core member of the faculty running the MSc in Mindfulness Based Interventions, in the Dept. Psychology, University College Dublin, where he holds the position of Senior Teacher/Supervisor since 2016.

His journey with Mindfulness began in 2011 when he attended an 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programme for therapists. Following on from this programme where he realised the benefits of Mindfulness for himself, it also inspired him to further his training to offer Mindfulness Based programmes in his work as a Therapist  and to support organisations looking to offer self-care and wellness opportunities for their staff teams.

He has trained with training centres such as the Oxford Mindfulness Centre in the UK and successfully completed an MSc with University College Dublin. Along with these two trainings he has also completed smaller training and retreats with world renowned teachers and is also a qualified Supervisor for Mindfulness Teachers. Barry is  Board  Member of the Mindfulness Teachers Association of Ireland (MTAI) and is chairperson of the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Working Group. He adheres to the Good Practice Guidelines set out by the MTAI.

Barry has supported many organisations in Mindfulness Based programmes including TUSLA Child & Family Agency and the Rutland Centre, he has delivered programmes for school principals and teachers along with courses for the public. Throughout his career Barry has held senior positions for some of Ireland’s leading organisations on addiction treatment.

Barry brings a combination of compassion and confidence to facilitate clients in exploring mindfulness when developing frameworks to support self-care, wellness, and resilience. Barry draws on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Emotional Intelligence models to provide the best support for each group he works with.
